The Sound of FDR-Sound

My music often begins with a simple element: a pulse, a tone, a field recording, a rhythm or a single chord. From there I build outward, layering sounds and allowing the character of each track to develop naturally.

Texture, atmosphere and rhythm are recurring elements throughout FDR-Sound, but each project can take its own direction. Some releases are slow, spacious and immersive, while others are more melodic, structured or rhythm-driven.

Rather than working within one fixed genre, FDR-Sound is a space for exploring different forms of electronic music, with sound design, mood and experimentation at the centre.

Instruments and Tools

Ableton Live is at the centre of my production process. I use a combination of software synthesizers, modular tools, effects and audio processing to shape each FDR-Sound release.

For synthesis and sound design, I regularly work with Serum 2, Vital, Surge XT, Dexed, TAL NoiseMaker, Podolski and VCV Rack. Depending on the project, these are used for atmospheric textures, basses, melodic elements, FM sounds, drones and experimental sound design.

Processing is an equally important part of the sound. Tools from Valhalla DSP, Soundtoys and Tokyo Dawn Records are used alongside Ableton Live’s own effects for space, movement, dynamics and tonal shaping. PaulXStretch, Kick 2 and other specialised tools are brought in when a composition calls for more extreme processing or detailed sound design.

The exact setup changes from one project to another. The tools serve the music rather than defining a fixed production style.
