Antwerp is a “Ghosttown”

Antwerp’s Streets Echo with Silence – My Haunting Photos of a City Frozen by Covid”

The pandemic brought many cities around the world to a standstill, and Antwerp was no exception. As I roamed the empty streets with my camera in hand, I couldn’t help but feel like I was in a ghost town.

The once bustling thoroughfares now stood desolate, with shuttered shops and cafes serving as a constant reminder of the pandemic’s impact. In my photos, the stillness is palpable – the absence of people, the absence of sound, the absence of life.

But in the midst of this eerie quiet, there was also a sense of resilience. The city may have been frozen in time, but its spirit remained unbroken. And as I captured these haunting images, I couldn’t help but marvel at the beauty of Antwerp’s empty streets – a stark reminder of the power and unpredictability of the world around us.

Take your time, look around, and most of all — feel at home.

“If you burned every book of fiction, in a thousand years they wouldn’t come back as they were. They’d all be different, because fiction is based on imagination. But if you burned all the science books, in a thousand years they’d all be back exactly the same, because science is based on facts and reality.”
