DRIFT is a generative audiovisual work that runs live in your browser.
Each frame the previous image is carried along a turning velocity field, and a little new dye is added. The image remembers where it came from: filaments stretch, fold over and dissolve, the way ink moves through water. Three sources wander slowly across the field, each feeding a different colour. Their paths share no common divisor, so the pattern never repeats.
There is no video in this piece. Everything is being calculated right now. What you are looking at has never been seen before and will not come back.
Developed in TouchDesigner, ported to WebGL, both built from the same shader source. Press the button to let it respond to sound — without a microphone it runs on its own.
